Abstract
Heparin sodium is an effective anticoagulant and has been used clinically in the treatment of venous thromboembolism. Specilly, low-dose heparin lock flush solution is a sterile preparation of heparin sodium injection with sufficient normal saline.
We studied stability and sterility of heparin lock flush solution which has preparated by our hospital pharmacy.
Heparin was diluted in 0.9% normal saline to produce final concentration of 10 and 100 units per milliliter. The admixtures were stored at room temperature and under refrigeration. The stability was determined by the aPTT assay and did not change significantly for 35days. The sterility was determined by checking the microbial growth. Finally, no microbial growth was noted. Therefore, heparin lock flush solution can be used for 35 days.
